Trick 1: Stop It At The Door.

Here’s the biggest secret. If it’s not important, it should never make it to your counter…table, desk, bedside table… or wherever your mail ends up! Before you even enter your house, or as soon as you enter your house with mail in hand, put all junk mail and unnecessary reminders straight into the recycling.

Trick 2: Get It Sorted

Mail sorting is truly one of the most valuable systems you can implement!

1) Choose a designated mail area. Go for somewhere where you might naturally put down the mail.

2) Think vertical. Eliminate daunting piles.

3) Label! Decide on categories. E.g. “Bills” “To File” “Personal”, or you may choose to give household members their own area.

4) Maintain. 1 to 4 times a month, empty each category and take action. File papers, send out bills, discard expired coupons & old invitations, add sentimental notes to your memory box, etc.

Trick 3: Opt Out.

You have power over the mail you receive! Here’s how to get it under control.

1) Paper Bills: Choosing electronic billing for credit cards, phone, internet, utilities, and beyond will cut down on a lot of mail every month.

2) Catalogues: Stop all those catalogues and magazines you’re not looking at, or check them out online instead. Read the fine print or visit catalogchoice.org to unsubscribe.

3) Junk Mail: To stop prescreened credit card and insurance offers simply call 1-888-5-OPT-OUT or visit optoutprescreen.com.

4) Mailing Lists: A lot of the junk mail we get is from members of the DMA, the largest U.S. data/marketing association. Head over to www.dmachoice.org and pay a $2 fee to get off the list for 10 years (worth it!!!).
